how to turn on Mercedes-Benz ECO start/stop

How do I turn off Mercedes-Benz ECO Start/Stop?

Mercedes-Benz has developed a number of technologies over the years for enhanced performance, convenience and efficiency. One of these technologies is the brand’s ECO Start/Stop feature that works to reduce vehicle emissions and increase fuel efficiency. The system is automatically activated in equipped models and shuts off the engine each time the vehicle is at a complete stop. While the system is seamlessly integrated, if you do not prefer to have it on all the time, our team at Mercedes-Benz of Gilbert can show you how to temporarily turn off the system.

How do you know if the ECO Start/Stop function is on?

When all conditions for the E-mode have been met, such as the driver’s door being closed and seatbelt fastened, a green ECO indicator will appear on the instrument cluster. If conditions have not been met, this indicator will show up yellow and the ECO Start/Stop system will not be activated.

Turning Off Mercedes-Benz ECO Start/Stop

The Eco Start/Stop system requires a variety of activation conditions including engine temperature, battery charge, whether you are stopped on an incline, if the door is closed, whether the driver’s seatbelt is fastened or not and the needs of the climate control system to maintain cabin comfort. If these conditions are not met, the system will not activate.

The ECO Start/Stop mode is also only activated when the transmission is in E-mode. The button to control this function is located on the console next to the COMAND controller. E-mode and consequently ECO Start/Stop is automatically turned on every time you start your Mercedes-Benz and will need to be deactivated each time should you prefer. However, there are many benefits to the ECO Start/Stop system that may keep you from deactivating the feature.

Do the Mercedes-AMG models have ECO Start/Stop?

Mercedes-AMG models also provide drivers with the efficiency of ECO Start/Stop. For the system to be activated drivers must select the C mode for the transmission. On the instrument cluster display of AMG models, the ECO Start/Stop indicator will appear as a special message showing the system as on or off.
