What is Mercedes-Maybach?

Mercedes-Maybach History and Current Role

The Mercedes-Benz lineup includes an array of excellent models, but not all fall under that Mercedes-Benz umbrella. In addition to the many models that hold the Mercedes-Benz name, there are additional machines that fall under slightly different brand designations such as Mercedes-AMG® and Mercedes-Maybach.

Mercedes-AMG®, for its part, designates particularly performance-oriented luxury models. But just what the heck is Mercedes-Maybach?

Mercedes-Maybach is a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz that focuses on ultra-luxury. Mercedes-Benz describes Mercedes-Maybach as “redefining what luxury means in our time,” and being, “an ultimate luxury of the future.”

What Mercedes-Maybach models are currently on the market?

Since 2018, there has been an ultra-luxury edition of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class under the Mercedes-Maybach name. Current Mercedes-Maybach models include the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 4MATIC Sedan and the Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Sedan.

History of Maybach

Maybach was originally a German car brand founded in 1908 by Wilhelm Maybach and his son. In 1960, Maybach was acquired by Daimler-Benz.

The name Maybach was brought back as a stand-alone ultra-luxury car brand in 2002. Upon its re-emergence, Maybach vehicles shared many components with Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

By 2013, Maybach had ceased to be a standalone brand. In 2015, it re-emerged, this time as a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz. This is the incarnation in which we find Mercedes-Maybach to this day.

The Approach of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600

An exciting new addition on its way to the Mercedes-Maybach family is the upcoming GLS 600. This model is all-new and highly anticipated. It will be the first SUV to grace the Maybach product portfolio. We’re pretty darn pumped to experience the refined spaciousness, unparalleled comfort, and powerful V8 performance that Mercedes-Benz promises will adorn this pinnacle of SUV luxury incarnate.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 is expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships (like ours!) in late 2020. It’s going to cost this much.
