When should I replace my windshield wiper blades?

Of all the components in your vehicle, your windshield wipers are probably one you don’t think to check up on. Most of us don’t replace them until they get really bad. Even though windshield wipers are relatively inexpensive, they’re important for clearing your line of sight when it’s raining or snowing. Find out below when you should replace your windshield wiper blades!

Schedule a Service Appointment

water droplets on a windshieldFor most vehicles, the windshield wipers will last about one year before they need to be replaced. This timeframe varies based on the quality of the wiper blades as well as the weather conditions you usually find yourself driving in (more frequent use will wear them down faster). If you notice streaking on the windshield, or if the wiper blades are missing spots, it’s time to get them replaced. This is also true if you find corrosion on the metal part of the wiper blades or wear or cracks on the rubber part.

Is it worth it to buy more expensive wiper blades?

Windshield wiper blades typically cost about $20 to $40 for a pair. If you’re a penny pincher, you might think it’s fine to go with a less expensive pair. While they may last you a long time, we would definitely recommend spending the extra $20 to get a nicer pair. It will definitely be appreciated when you’re stuck in a rainstorm and not dealing with streaks or skipping wiper blades. They will also last longer as well.

Just like any other kind of service, you shouldn’t put off getting new wiper blades until the last minute. You’ll likely find it’s worth it to have a nice, functional pair of windshield wiper blades when you get stuck in heavy rain or snow. For more tips and tricks, check out the rest of our blog!
