How do I start a charging session?
Charging sessions can be initiated in multiple ways. Your dealer will activate your vehicle with Mercedes me Charge. From there, you can charge with Plug & Charge, an RFID card, the Mercedes me app, or right from your vehicle’s navigation system. Can I charge at home with a standard household outlet?
Yes, but a standard 110V outlet is much slower than a 240V outlet. The good news is having a 240V Level 2 charging station installed at home is easy. We recommend the ChargePoint Home Flex wallbox, and Qmerit for installation.
How safe is charging?
Every Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle has specific features to ensure safe charging. Instead of electricity flowing the moment it’s plugged in like a traditional appliance, the vehicle and wallbox communicate to confirm it’s safe before any electricity flows. Charging is also engineered to be safe in wet weather.
Does the battery have to be drained to zero periodically?
No. The lithium-ion batteries in Mercedes-Benz EVs have no “memory effect,” meaning they never need to be fully drained and they don’t have to be fully charged either. Battery life is unaffected by partial charging.

Lithium-ion batteries are lightweight, quick to charge, and have a long service life perfect for electric cars. Mercedes-Benz uses automotive-grade batteries engineered for durability and longevity well beyond the batteries used in phones or laptops.
