2026 vs. 2027 Mercedes-Benz: Is the Outgoing Model Year the Smarter Buy?

August 8th, 2026 by

Quick answer: Buy the 2026 if you want the strongest incentives and the vehicle already has the features you need. Buy the 2027 if the model was significantly redesigned, if you plan to keep it beyond five years, or if resale value matters more to you than the up-front discount.

Why do outgoing model years get better offers?

As 2027 inventory arrives, dealers and Mercedes-Benz Financial Services both want the remaining 2026 stock to move. That usually shows up as lower APR financing, larger lease credits, or both. You can see what is currently running on our monthly specials page.

The trade-off is depreciation. A 2026 purchased in late 2026 is one model year old on paper the day you buy it, which affects resale later.

When is the 2027 worth the extra money?

It depends entirely on whether the model changed. A mid-cycle year with no meaningful updates is a weak reason to pay more. A full redesign is a strong one.

The clearest example this year is the CLA. The 2027 CLA 250+ is a fully electric car with a new powertrain and new charging hardware, not a trim update. We covered it in detail in our guide to the 2027 CLA 250+.

How long do I plan to keep it?

This is the question that settles most of these decisions.

  • Three years or less, or leasing: the incentive on the 2026 usually wins, because you will not hold the vehicle long enough for the model year to matter much at resale
  • Five years or more: the newer model year tends to age better, particularly on technology and driver assistance features

If you are weighing lease against purchase, our honest breakdown of leasing versus financing walks through the numbers.

What about Certified Pre-Owned instead?

There is a third option people forget. A Certified Pre-Owned Mercedes-Benz that is two or three years old often costs meaningfully less than either new model year while still carrying factory-backed coverage.

Our guide on what Certified Pre-Owned actually covers explains the warranty, the inspection and what is not included. Current CPO stock is on our Certified Pre-Owned inventory page.

Is August a good month to buy in Arizona?

August sits in a useful window. Outgoing model year inventory is still available, incentives are active, and showroom traffic in Phoenix is lower than it will be in October. We looked at seasonal timing in is summer the best time to buy a Mercedes-Benz in Arizona.

Frequently asked questions

Do 2026 models still qualify for factory financing?

Yes. Mercedes-Benz Financial Services offers apply to current in-stock model years, and outgoing years frequently carry the lower rates.

Does a 2026 bought new count as a 2026 for warranty?

Warranty starts from the in-service date, not the model year, so a 2026 purchased new in August 2026 begins its coverage then.
