What is the difference between Mercedes-Benz Service A and Service B?

Mercedes-Benz Service A and Service B are the two factory-scheduled maintenance visits that all modern Mercedes-Benz vehicles follow. Service A is performed at approximately 10,000 miles or one year after delivery (whichever comes first) and includes a synthetic motor oil and filter change, a multi-point inspection, a tire inflation check, a brake-component inspection, and a reset of the maintenance counter. Service B is performed at approximately 20,000 miles or two years and includes everything in Service A plus a cabin air filter replacement, a brake-fluid exchange, and additional inspection items. After the first two years, Service A and Service B alternate annually for the life of the vehicle.

What is included in Service A

  • Synthetic Mercedes-Benz Genuine Motor Oil and oil filter replacement
  • Multi-point inspection of vehicle systems
  • Tire inflation and tread-depth check
  • Brake component inspection
  • Brake-fluid level check
  • Coolant level inspection
  • Reset of the onboard service indicator

What is included in Service B

  • Everything included in Service A
  • Cabin combination filter (dust/odor filter) replacement
  • Brake-fluid exchange (every two years, per Mercedes-Benz specification)
  • Additional inspection items including drive belts, suspension components, exterior lighting, and fluid levels

When is each service due?

The Mercedes-Benz onboard service indicator counts down based on a mix of mileage, time elapsed, and driving conditions. The first Service A is typically due around 10,000 miles or 12 months from the in-service date — whichever comes first. Service B is due around 20,000 miles or 24 months. After the first two services, the system alternates Service A and Service B annually for the life of the vehicle (A, B, A, B…). The dashboard displays a wrench icon and a message such as “Service A in 1,500 miles” as the next visit approaches.

Why factory service matters for Mercedes-Benz vehicles

Mercedes-Benz vehicles require specific synthetic oils, calibration tools, and software updates that aftermarket shops are often not equipped to provide. At Mercedes-Benz of Gilbert, factory-trained Mercedes-Benz technicians use only Mercedes-Benz Genuine Parts and the latest Mercedes-Benz factory diagnostic equipment. Records of every visit are uploaded to the vehicle’s permanent Mercedes-Benz service history, which protects warranty coverage and supports the vehicle’s resale value.

How to schedule

Service appointments at Mercedes-Benz of Gilbert can be booked online in under two minutes, or by calling the service department at (480) 466-0951. Loaner vehicles are available with most appointments, request one when you book. The dealership also offers a complimentary multi-point inspection at every visit. What about Service A and Service B for older Mercedes-Benz vehicles?

Vehicles delivered before approximately 2009 followed a different Flexible Service System (Service A only, every 10,000 miles, with additional items at certain mileage milestones). For any Mercedes-Benz model year, the service team can pull the exact factory schedule using the VIN.
