The 144-inch wheelbase turns tighter and fits a standard parking space. The 170-inch adds roughly 40 inches of overall length and a large step up in cargo volume. Choose 144″ for urban routes and daily parking; choose 170″ for long materials or a camper build.

The fact that surprises most buyers

Payload is identical at 4,211 lbs. The 170-inch buys you volume and length, not capacity. If you are choosing the longer van because you need to carry more weight, you are solving the wrong problem.

Choose the 144″ if…

You work dense routes with street parking. You use drive-thrus, parking structures or a residential garage. You carry volume rather than length, boxes, tools, equipment. You want the easier van to place in a tight alley or at a loading dock.

Choose the 170″ if…

You carry lumber, pipe, conduit, ladders or trim. You are building a camper and want a crosswise rear bed plus a galley. You need a work area and storage. You are moving toward palletised freight.

The mistake we see most often

Buyers over-buy length and under-buy roof height. Another 40 inches of floor does not help if your crew works hunched over. If people work inside the van, solve standing room first, then length.

The parking reality

A 274-inch van does not fit a standard parking space, and a high roof will not clear most garage height bars. Before ordering, measure the places the van has to live every day — the job sites, the shop, and wherever it sleeps at night.

Which is better for a camper conversion?
